BURLINGTON, ON – Shifra Homes is pleased to announce that it has received a grant of $75,000 from the Government of Canada and United Way Halton and Hamilton’s Emergency Community Support Fund for COVID-19 relief.
The funding will be used to provide essentials such as groceries and increased sanitation, as well as increased resources for mental health and addictions counseling. “The award of this grant from the Emergency Community Support Fund will support Shifra’s efforts to ensure the safety and wellbeing of our current and former residents,” says Nancy Romic, Executive Director of Shifra Homes. “The effects of the pandemic are not only physical. Social distancing and isolation is impacting livelihoods, safety and mental health, and it’s often the most vulnerable in our communities who are the hardest hit.” The funding is available to all current residents as well as former residents currently enrolled in Shifra’s Seeds of Hope program. About Shifra Homes: Shifra Homes is a women’s shelter for young homeless and pregnant women. The Shifra mission is to provide a safe haven and an empowering environment that promotes dignity and a sense of hope for our residents in order to set them up for success and autonomy after leaving our home.
